Frequently asked questions
What does a process server do?
A process server delivers legal documents such as a summons and complaint, subpoena or restraining order to the person or business being sued or notified, then completes a signed proof of service for the court. Service must follow California rules, so it is usually handled by a registered process server.
How much does process service cost?
The price depends on where the papers are served, how fast you need service (standard, rush, same-day or urgent) and how difficult the person is to find. We confirm your quote first, and nothing starts until you approve it. Use the service request form or call (888) 531-2220.
How long does it take to serve papers?
Standard service typically takes 3–5 days and rush service 24–48 hours. Same-day rush and urgent handling are available when the location and timing allow.
Can I serve court papers myself in California?
If you are a party to the case, no. California requires that papers be served by an adult (18 or older) who is not a party to the action (Code of Civil Procedure § 414.10). A friend who is not involved in the case can serve, but most people hire a process server so service is properly documented.
Do you serve all of California, or only Los Angeles?
Both. Our home base is Los Angeles County, and we serve all 58 California counties through registered process servers coordinated by our Los Angeles team. See our Los Angeles County and California pages.
Which courthouses do you work with?
We file and deliver documents at Los Angeles Superior Court courthouses and at courthouses in every California county. Our county pages list the main courthouse for each county, and your case’s assigned courthouse is shown on the filed complaint or notice of case assignment.
Upfront quotes, no surprises
Standard, rush, same-day rush and urgent options. Volume pricing for law firms — no hidden mileage on standard LA County serves.
